An “American” silkmoth endemic to Himalayas, part I: life history and natural distribution of Antheraea compta Rothschild, 1899 (Lepidoptera, Saturniidae)

نویسندگان

چکیده

Females of the uncommon Antheraea compta Rothschild, 1899 were collected at natural habitat in Tibetan Sub-Himalayas, descendants which reared on Quercus yunnanensis (Fagaceae) successfully, with all preimaginal instars recorded morphologically. Correlated characters revealed a close relationship between this taxon and New World spp., suggesting more attention protection towards key species is necessary future.

The complete mitochondrial genome of the Chinese oak silkmoth, Antheraea pernyi (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae).

We determined the complete nucleotide sequence of the mitogenome from Chinese oak silkmoth, Antheraea pernyi (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae). The 15,566 bp circular genome contains a typical gene organization and order for lepidopteran mitogenomes. The mitogenome contains the lowest A+T content (80.16%) among the known lepidopteran mitogenome sequences. An unusual feature is the occurrence of more T...

Microsatellite markers for the Indian golden silkmoth, Antheraea assama (Saturniidae: Lepidoptera).

Antheraea assama, an economically important and scientifically unexplored Indian wild silkmoth, is unique among saturniid moths. For this species, a total of 87 microsatellite markers was derived from 35 000 expressed sequence tags and a microsatellite-enriched sub-genomic library. Forty individuals collected from Tura and West Garo Hills region of Northeast India were screened for each of thes...

Structural and Functional Characterization of the Actin-1 Gene Promoter From the Antheraea pernyi (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae)

The Chinese oak silkworm, Antheraea pernyi, is an economically important insect of the Saturniidae family. In this study, genome walking was performed to obtain an A. pernyi actin promoter, which can be employed in transgenic or stable cell line expression systems. The putative promoter was analyzed by the online promoter analysis programs at the Berkeley Drosophila Genome Project and the Web P...

Diverse Evidence That Antheraea Pernyi (lepidoptera: Saturniidae) Is Entirely of Sericultural Origin

There is a preponderance of evidence that the tussah silkmoth Antheraea pernyi was derived thousands of years ago from the wild A. roylei. Historical, sericultural, morphological, cytogenetic, and taxonomic data are cited in support of this hypothesis. This explains why A. pernyi is very easy to mass rear, produces copious quantities of silk in its cocoons, and the oak tasar “hybrid”crosses bet...

Population genetic characterization of the Japanese oak silkmoth, Antheraea yamamai (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae), using novel microsatellite markers and mitochondrial DNA gene sequences.

The Japanese oak silkmoth, Antheraea yamamai Guérin-Méneville, 1861 (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae), is an important natural resource of industrial value for silk fiber production. Owing to a lack of geographic and population genetic information, systematic domestication of An. yamamai has not been possible yet. In this study, 10 microsatellite markers developed using next-generation sequencing and ...
